Abstract
Proton therapy (PT) is an advancing and developing radiotherapy modality. Experimental beam data must be obtained for accurate beam modeling within a proton treatment planning system (TPS). Existing guidelines describe proton pencil beam modeling. First, they analyze the intrinsic properties of a proton pencil beam, including energy distribution, angular-spatial distribution, and particle count. They then list the required input data for TPSs. Finally, information such as integrated depth dose curves, airborne point maps, and reference dosimetry are acquired to determine the pencil beam modeling data for the safe and precise delivery of proton treatments.
